Lent Service
In our Lent Service, Margaret led the children in an interactive re-telling of The Prodigal Son, a story of forgiveness. The children had the opportunity to write something for which they are sorry and Margaret took these to place on the BBQ. They were taken from us and reduced to ashes; there would be no record of the wrong things we had done. She wanted to bring a visual representation of the Christian message of forgiveness.
In keeping with our Global Learning this year in school, we used this opportunity to explore the work of Water Aid and its impact on communities in places like the Eastern Cape, where our partnered school is. Without clean water, many of the Human Rights we have been learning about this term are denied: an education, a healthy diet, time to play and have fun, water to drink and good hygiene. This Lent the children are encouraged to fill a jar with loose change so that Water Aid can change our money into clean water. The children may like to use the money saved from giving up something to put in their jar and see their small sacrifice benefitting children less fortunate than themselves.
