Bronze Award project 1: Litter
Look at the success of our new class recycling containers!
Here are your snack wrappers collected from each classroom at the end of a week. They are now ready to go to the correct recycling container. Before School Parliament started this project, all of this would have gone to landfill. Well done team!!

Look at what we scored in the Environmental Review at the start of the year. With your help and commitment we have made tremendous progress tackling litter spoiling our school environment whilst raising awareness of what we can recycle at North Leigh and how we can do this better.

Bronze Aware project 2: Energy
The Eco Council are currently collecting data around our school use of heating and electricity. We are determined to reduce usage and help lower our impact on climate change. This Lent we are focusing on the Global Learning theme: Sustainability and engaging in Live Lent Challenges to help us care for our creation practically. Being more proactive in turning off lights, using timer devices on our laptop chargers and setting our thermostats to 18 °C will help us to make positive strides forward. Look out for Switch Off Fortnight news coming soon.

Eco School Project 1 "Litter"
Recycling at North Leigh
The Eco Council's first project this term focuses on litter: reducing litter and improving recycling. To help us with this, the school parliament wrote a questionnaire to ask their classes. They wanted to know what the barriers were to pupils recycling their litter. They discovered that some children were unsure where to find the fruit bins outside and unaware of the school's capacity to recycle their snack wrappers. This meant pupils were throwing recyclable waste in the general rubbish bin or taking it home. The school parliament decided to create a designated recycling container for each class for children to place their empty wrappers at the end of break times. These will be emptied into the correct recycling containers in the shed each Friday by the class school parliament representatives during Friday breaktime. They will be supervised by our eco school ambassadors who will advise if any class waste is not yet recyclable under our current Terracycle scheme. The school parliament also made this Powerpoint to show their classes. They wanted to raise awareness of what can be recycled and where to find the different containers. The School Parliament led the Celebration Assembly on Friday 18th October to share their findings of the Litter Questionnaires and launch the Class Recycling Containers.
